Diatoms - Rhopalodia

Rhopalodia parallela is a freshwater species. Rhopalodia favours low nitrogen environment where it can benefit from the symbiotic cyanobacteria that enable the diatom to fix nitrogen from the atmosphere.

Rhopalodia parallela, found in diatomite deposit at Three Lakes, core TL5, at 3.6 to 3.7 m depth.

See Rhopalodia on Algaebase or Diatoms.org. Not found on the Natural History Museum of Wales website.
